Mariateresa Magisano is a native of Montreal and is of Italian descent. Most recently she performed with the Arizona Opera in the role of "Despina" in their new production of Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte. Prior to this Mariateresa sang with Opera Columbus where she reprised the role of "Zerlina" in their 2004 production of Don Giovanni. Some career highlights include singing the title role in the Des Moines Metro Opera's 2004 production of Rossini's Cinderella; "Zerlina" with the New York City Opera in the 2001 and 2002 production's of Don Giovanni under the baton of Stuart Bedford and Maestro George Manahan respectively. Mariateresa has sung "Rosina" in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Aspen Music Festival and with Opera Saskatchewan; "Susanna" in Le Nozze di Figaro, "Zerlina" in Don Giovanni, and "Stefano" in Romeo et Juliette with Vancouver Opera; "Dorabella" in Cosi fan tutte with the Aspen Music Festival, the Asolo Musica Festival in Treviso, Italy, and with the Teatro Rendano in Italy; "Nicklausse" in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Edmonton Opera; "Cherubino" in Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Saskatchewan and at England’s Aldeburgh Festival as well as "Gretel" in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel with Calgary Opera. Last season Mariateresa covered the role of "Cenerentola" in Rossini's La Cenerentola with the San Francisco Opera.
Upcoming engagements include "Nicklausse" in Offenbach's Les Contes D'Hoffmann with Opera Lyra Ottawa. On the Concert stage Mariateresa will perform with the Chor Leoni, and in recital with the Vancouver Women's Musical Society in honor of their 100th Anniversary celebration.
Ms. Magisano is an active concert soloist, having performed the world premieres of I. Raminsh's What voices in unknown tongues with the Vancouver Chamber Choir (CBC Records), L. Nessel’s In Limine with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and R. Lang’s Magnificat with Chor Leoni (Skylark Music); and “Brahms: Sonatas and songs” (Skylark Music). Most recently, Mariateresa performed Britten's Dramatic Cantata Phaedra with the Canadian Center for Architecture and CBC Radio, as well in recital with the Almonte and District Arts Council Performing Arts Series in collaboration with CBC National Radio in Ottawa. Mariateresa has performed in recital and in concert with various organizations, namely the Vancouver Recital Society (CBC Radio broadcast), the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival, I Musici de Montréal , the CBC - McGill Concert Series in Montréal, with L'Opera de Montréal Opera Gala and with the L'Opera de Quebec Opera Gala.
Ms. Magisano is a Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, as well as a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera Ed Fund Award. For several years she was generously sponsored by the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation for Canadian Opera Singers and has completed her training and studies at the Juilliard Opera Center and McGill University. Some of the festivals among which Mariateresa has participated in are the Tanglewood Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Steans institute at the Ravinia festival.
