Rita Costanzi

Rita Costanzi has resided in Vancouver for 25 years and is one of the city’s most recognizable artists, sharing her talents through concert performances, acting, teaching, writing and public speaking. She is Principal Harp of the CBC Radio Orchestra and is on the performing faculties of the UBC School of Music, the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre and the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific. Having established her reputation as an artist of rare depth and expression, she is the recipient of commissioning grants from the Canada Council and the BC Arts Council and continues to give new meaning to the harp as a solo instrument.

Adding a new dimension to her performance art, Rita Costanzi astounds audiences with the two monodramas written especially for her. The Westcoast Music Awards nominated her solo classical CD Of Fields and Forests for “Best Classical Album”. Vancouver Television introduced her in its series “Pacific Profiles” featuring prominent and unique individuals living in Vancouver and CBC Radio’s “Tapestry” devoted a documentary to her work playing for the terminally ill.

Performances at the Tanglewood, Marlboro and Chautauqua Festivals, as well as at the World Harp Congress and the Cambridge Music Conference in England confirm her reputation as “an artist of immense gifts”.

Her latest CD, Song of the Stars, an album of Celtic Solo Harp music for contemplation and healing has received international acclaim and a five-star rating from CBC Radio’s “Sound Advice.”

In addition to her performing career, Ms Costanzi continues to dedicate her efforts to help raise public awareness to the importance of the Arts – especially for children, in our society. She is the Fundraising Chairperson for the rebuilding of the Vancouver Waldorf School’s new Hall.
